Clare of Assisi is the feminine counterpart
of Francis of Assisi. In 1212 Clare founded a community of
sisters who sought to live a vision of Gospel life as contemplative
sisters dedicated to praying for the needs of all people. Today
we are known as the Poor Clares.
For us this means that
we are open to people who want to spend time in prayer, worship,
and/or solitude at our monastery. We also receive calls and
letters requesting that we remember people in our prayers.
Since we do not work
outside the monastery our ability to earn an income is limited.
This is our annual fundraising event called, the Run for the Nuns.
This year it will be at Harbor Point in Winton Woods on Saturday,
October 2, 2010 at 9:00am. It is certified so that experienced
runners can use it to qualify for marathons.
Besides the Run there is
a Walk, Children's Run, and a St. Francis Animal Blessing.
By having the Run we
want to promote good will among people of the city, family values, and
wholesome enjoyment of sports and nature. Please help us in this
effort.
